The park has creatures that may be hard to spot during the day but will be much simpler to see at night when they are awake and lively. It may be far easier to see animals like leopards, civets, hyenas, and bush babies at night. A few species of birds are also nocturnal.
Given the abundance of natural water sources in Akagera National Park, including lakes, rivers, and wetlands, taking a boat tour during your visit is only appropriate. Don’t forget to take a boat trip on Lake Ihema. One of the highest densities of hippos in East Africa, as well as a large number of aquatic birds, will be visible to you.
Along the lake’s banks, there are several elephants as well. And of course, the perspective of the park from the water is stunning.
Lake Shakani, one of the area’s several lakes, offers fishing opportunities for those who may be interested in the activity, whether for fun or for sustenance. Tilapia and cat fish are the most prevalent species in the lake. You may spot or hear hippos in the distance while you are fishing. The park also hosts a few fishing competitions every now and then that you may enter if one happens to be happening during your stay.
