Exclusive Gorilla Vacations

One of the most visited national parks in the nation is in the southwest of the country, in Bwindi. Thousands of tourists who want to meet animals that are said to have over 98% human DNA have been drawn to the park by the country’s abundance of mountain gorillas. The national park has been divided into four sectors where gorilla trekking is conducted: Nkuringo, Rushaga, Ruhija, and Buhoma. One of the most popular sectors is the Rushaga sector, and this piece will explore the reasons why visitors enjoy it and the rationale for trekking gorillas there.

The Rushaga sector is in the southern part of the Kisoro district, where the Bwindi Gorilla Park is situated. One of the most popular sectors to go when planning a gorilla trekking excursion to Bwindi National Park is the region. The sector has the greatest number of mountain gorilla families and permits, and it is also more accessible than other trekking locations. The justifications for trekking gorillas in Bwindi are listed below.

The most gorilla families are found in the Rushaga region.

You may hike mountain gorillas in Rushaga, Bwindi, for a number of reasons, one of which is that you have a variety of mountain gorilla families to trek. The greatest number of mountain gorilla families that have been habituated for tourism purposes are found in this sector. The Rushaga sector, which includes Bweza, Nshongi, Busingye, Mishaya, Mucunguzi, Rwigi, and Kahungye, is home to seven mountain gorilla families that have been trained for hiking.

In Rushaga, there is a good chance of obtaining permits.

The fact that there are more gorilla permits available in Rushaga Bwindi than in other trekking sectorss is another reason to go gorilla trekking there. It’s quite uncommon to not get a permit for Rushaga, given the abundance of gorilla permits available. The sector boasts 7 mountain gorilla families available for hiking, which translates to 52 gorilla trekking licenses, and 1 gorilla family available for habituation, which translates to 8 habituation licenses. Since the gorilla licenses for the Rushaga region will always be available, travelers should not hurry to reserve them.

The Rushaga sector serves as a hub for gorilla habituation initiatives.

Another reason to hike gorillas in Rushaga, Bwindi, is because of the gorilla habituation experience. Mountain gorilla habituation, a procedure that allows visitors to spend four hours with mountain gorillas and accustom them to the presence of people, is practiced in one of two locations in the sector. The Bikingi mountain gorilla family is intentionally maintained in Rushaga sector for the purpose of gorilla habituation, allowing visitors to spend more than an hour with mountain gorillas. A maximum of four hikers, accompanied by scientists and conservationists, are permitted to trek the gorilla group.

Rushaga is easily accessible.

Rushaga sector is a must-see for tourists because it is one of the easiest sectors to reach by road, particularly from Kigali. From Kigali, it is simple to reach the sector; the trip takes four to five hours via the Cyanika border in Kisoro, where you cross into Uganda. The closest sector to visit from Kisoro town is also Rushaga, with a distance of 31 kilometers.

There are several lodging options in the Rushaga sector.

Another reason why you should go on a gorilla hike in the Rushaga region is because there are many lodging options available to tourists. The Rushaga sector of Bwindi has the most lodging options for visitors who want to stay a night or more during their safari. These lodging facilities range from inexpensive to mid-range to opulent options, and they include Rushaga Gorilla Camp, Gorilla Valley Lodge, Wagtail Eco Safari Lodge, Chameleon Hill Lodge, Four Gorillas Lodge, Bwindi Jungle Lodge, Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge, Nsongi Camp, Rushaga Gorilla Resort, Mutanda Lake Resort, Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge, and Lake Mulehe Gorilla Lodge.

Any season is perfect for trekking in the Rushaga sector.

Rushaga sector of Bwindi offers gorilla trekking at any time of year, although some months are preferable to others. The ideal time to see the Rushaga region is during the dry months of June through September and December through February, when there is very little or no rain. The routes leading to the park are in nice condition, the trekking paths are dry, the vegetation is sparse and low, providing unobstructed views of the mountain gorillas, and the photography is excellent.

Because the lodge owners reduce rates to entice a few visitors to the park during the rainy season of March through May and October through November, travelers, particularly those on a tight budget, may visit the Rushaga sector to take advantage of the lodging discounts. Nevertheless, the rainy season is marked by sparse or nonexistent precipitation, which makes the trekking trails muddy and slick, dense and tall vegetation that obscures views of these primates, unclear photography, and poor road conditions leading to the park.
