Travel Documents & Health Requirements (Before You Travel)

To ensure a smooth entry into Uganda and participation in your trekking activities, please prepare the following well in advance of your departure.

    • Valid Passport:Your passport must be valid for at least six (6) months from your intended date of entry into Uganda and must have at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps.
    • Entry Visa: All international visitors (except citizens of East African Community partner states) are required to obtain a Ugandan visa prior to arrival. We strongly recommend applying for the Uganda e-Visa online at least 2-3 weeks before your travel date. The e-Visa is typically valid for 90 days and allows for single or multiple entries depending on the type you select.
    • Mandatory Yellow Fever Vaccination:The Ugandan government requires all travelers arriving from or transiting through Yellow Fever endemic countries to present a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport. Even if you are traveling from a non-endemic country, we strongly recommend getting vaccinated at least 10 days before travel, as immigration officials may request proof at their discretion. Please carry your original Yellow Card (International Certificate of Vaccination) with you at all times.
    • Malaria Prophylaxis:Uganda is a malaria-risk country. We strongly recommend you consult your doctor for appropriate anti-malarial medication before traveling. Please also pack mosquito repellent and consider sleeping under mosquito nets (provided at most lodges).

Guest Eligibility, Age & Health Regulations

The safety of our guests and the protection of the wildlife we cherish are paramount. These are non-negotiable national park rules.

    • Minimum Age Requirement:Due to strict international wildlife protection regulations, this tour is strictly unavailable to children under the age of 15 years. This is a mandatory rule set by the Uganda Wildlife Authority for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking.
    • Mandatory Face Masks:To prevent the transmission of airborne illnesses to the endangered primates (who share 98% of our DNA), the use of protective face masks is strictly mandatory during both the Chimpanzee trek in Kibale and the Mountain Gorilla trek in Bwindi. Please ensure you pack these.
    • Physical Fitness Requirement: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is physically demanding. You must be able to hike completely unassisted at a steady pace through dense forests, on slippery terrain, and along steep slopes at altitudes reaching up to 8,553 feet. Treks can last anywhere from 2 to 7 hours depending entirely on the movement of the gorilla families.
    • Health Declaration:Any visitor showing active signs of a communicable illness (such as a cold, flu, or cough) will be legally prohibited by park rangers from entering the tracking zones to protect the primates. Please be honest with your guide about your health.

We maintain an intimate and high-value group dynamic for an exceptional safari experience.

    • Guaranteed Departures: This specialized package requires a minimum of 6 passengers per vehicle to officially confirm and run the tour.

Flight Coordination, Luggage & Ground Logistics

Proper planning ensures smooth transit throughout your journey.

    • Arrival: This is a ground-only small group tour. Your package includes an arrival airport transfer on Day 1 from Entebbe International Airport to your hotel. All travelers must arrive on Day 1 to participate in the welcome briefing.
    • Departure:On Day 10, the group will drive back from Lake Mburo to Entebbe. To avoid rushing and ensure a smooth transit, please ensure your outbound international flight is booked for a late-evening or night departure from Entebbe International Airport.
    • Luggage Restrictions: Due to space limitations inside our safari vehicles, passengers must pack their belongings insoft-sided duffel bags. Traditional hard-sided suitcases with rigid plastic shells or metal frames cannot be accommodated in the vehicle cargo areas.

Expectation of Pacing & Driving Times

Uganda is a beautiful country with diverse, shifting landscapes, which means navigating between national parks involves considerable distance.

You should expect long travel times on transit days, with average driving times ranging from 5 to 8 hours between primary destinations. Some roads can be rough, unpaved, or bumpy.

We balance these transit days with early morning game drives and regular scenery stops to keep the journey engaging and comfortable.

    Understanding Your Permits & Deposit

Permit Deposit Policy: A deposit of $1,100 USD per person is required at the time of booking. This is non-refundable as it is used immediately to legally secure your official Mountain Gorilla ($800) and Chimpanzee ($300) trekking permits.

Important Note: Because the Uganda Wildlife Authority strictly caps the number of daily visitors to protect the primates, these permits sell out months in advance. Early booking is highly recommended.

Community Support & Donation Program (Optional)

At Exclusive Gorilla Vacations, we believe in meaningful travel that supports local communities. While this is entirely optional, we invite you to consider traveling with purpose.

    • Bring Donations (If You Wish):If you have items you would like to donate, you are welcome to bring them along. Items such as school materials (books, pens, notebooks), clothing, or footwear are greatly appreciated by local families.
    • Personal Distribution: Should you choose to bring donations, our dedicated guiding team will happily organize a community visit during your tour. This allows you to safely and personally distribute your items to local families and community groups, creating a meaningful connection with the people of Uganda.
    • How It Works:Simply pack your donation items alongside your personal luggage. Once you arrive, inform our team, and we will coordinate a suitable time within your itinerary for you to visit a local community and make your contribution directly.
