Upon stepping out of the arrivals terminal at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), you will be met by a personal driver-guide holding a customized placard. You will be transferred in a private air-conditioned vehicle to your boutique city hotel. Receive a comprehensive welcome briefing over fresh Kenyan coffee regarding the upcoming adventure. Board your private 4×4 Land Cruiser and journey north. Drive past sprawling pineapple fields and climb the cool agricultural highlands of Mount Kenya before descending into the dramatic, semi-arid northern frontier. Cross the equator and enter Samburu National Reserve. Take a late-afternoon game drive along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River—the primary watering lifeline for the region’s wildlife.
Spend the day looking for Samburu’s unique, desert-adapted wildlife species found nowhere else in the southern parks. Your expert guide will track the “Samburu Special Five”: the rare blue-skinned Somali Ostrich, Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, the straight-horned Beisa Oryx, and the bizarre Gerenuk (a gazelle that stands upright on its hind legs to eat acacia leaves). Enjoy a late lunch, then transfer directly to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for your international departure flight home.
