Amboseli National Park is world-renowned for its unique hydrology: melting snow from Mount Kilimanjaro filters underground and bubbles up directly into the heart of the park, creating permanent freshwater swamps. This short tour gives clients an intimate look at massive, unbroken elephant family lineages, rich birdlife, and unparalleled views of Africa’s highest free-standing mountain.
Morning:Depart Nairobi early at 07:00 AM, heading south down the smooth Nairobi-Mombasa highway. The drive takes you through scenic open savannas and colorful local communities before turning inland toward the Tanzania border.
Afternoon:Enter Amboseli National Park by midday, checking into your lodge for lunch. At 04:00 PM, depart for your afternoon game drive. The dusty plains contrast sharply with the vibrant green marshlands. You will immediately encounter Amboseli’s famous “red elephants”—so named because they dust themselves in the park’s volcanic soil. Watch as herds of up to a hundred elephants cross the dusty tracks directly in front of your vehicle.
Night:Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Sopa Lodge (or similar).
Morning:Wake up at 05:45 AM. At this hour, the clouds around Mount Kilimanjaro usually clear, revealing its majestic, snow-covered peak in the golden morning light. Head out for a game drive to photograph wildlife against this iconic backdrop.
Afternoon:After a late morning breakfast and relaxation by the pool, head out for your afternoon safari trek. Visit Observation Hill, a volcanic pyramid that you can climb on foot. From the summit, look out over the entire park, viewing hippos, buffaloes, and elephants feeding in the swamps below. Keep an eye out for hunting hyenas and cheetahs patrolling the dry lake beds.
Night:Dinner and overnight at Amboseli Sopa Lodge (or similar).
Morning:Enjoy a relaxed breakfast looking out at the mountain plains. Take a shorter morning game drive as you exit the park gates, catching final glimpses of zebras, wildebeests, and gazelles.
Afternoon:Journey back north to Nairobi, stopping along the route for a casual lunch. Arrive back in the city by mid-afternoon, providing a smooth transition for your evening flight home or check-in at a city hotel.
