Set off at 7:30am for a briefing at Volcanoes National Park after breakfast. The 4 to 6-hour hike up Mount Bisoke starts at 8:00am, with a drive to the starting point where you’ll receive a hiking stick. At the summit, enjoy the Crater Lake and stunning views of the Virunga ranges, Volcanoes National Park, Virunga National Park, Mgahinga National Park, and the Rwenzori mountains. Descend to meet your guide and head to the lodge for lunch.

Next, transfer to lake Kivu to experience the enchanting Lake Kivu on the Rwanda/Congo border, just two hours from Kigali. Kibuye offers swimming, canoeing, and water-skiing, while Gisenyi has nostalgic Belgian-era architecture. After gorilla tracking in Parc des Volcans, enjoy a boat ride on Lake Kivu, observing bird species and aquatic animals. After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing on the day’s chimpanzee tracking activity. Experienced ranger guides will highlight the day’s agenda, providing insights into the behavior and habits of chimpanzees in Nyungwe forest. The forest is also home to various primate species like L’Hoest monkeys, Angola Colobus, vervet monkeys, Red-tailed Monkeys, Dent’s Mona Monkeys, Olive Baboons, and Grey-cheeked Mangabeys, along with over 300 bird species including the great blue Turaco and the Rwenzori Turaco. Typically, the time taken to locate chimpanzees varies and can range from 45 minutes to 4 hours. Once they are spotted, you spend about an hour observing their behaviors. During this time, you’ll witness their social interactions, feeding habits, and other fascinating behaviors in their natural habitat. After this immersive experience, you return to the lodge, reflecting on the remarkable encounter with these incredible primates. After the trek, enjoy lunch at the lodge before immersing yourself in the treetops with a canopy walk.
