Then, we’ll explore the dynamic art scene of Kigali with a visit to the Inema Arts Center, marveling at the creativity and expression of local artists. Following a satisfying lunch at one of the city’s charming restaurants, we’ll journey north to Ruhengeri, nestled at the base of the Virunga Mountains and Volcanoes National Park. Here, amidst breathtaking scenery, we’ll enjoy dinner and a restful overnight stay at our chosen hotel lodge.

Prepare for an extraordinary mountain gorilla trekking experience by waking early and donning the recommended attire: long trousers, a long-sleeved shirt, waterproof hiking shoes, a waterproof jacket, a round hat, and heavy-duty gloves to combat the unpredictable forest weather. After breakfast and packing lunch, meet your safari guide and head to the park information center for a comprehensive pre-trek briefing. Learn about dos and don’ts, expectations, and the code of conduct during the gorilla trek. Grouped with eight individuals, you’ll be assigned a specific gorilla family to track, accompanied by armed rangers and a knowledgeable guide. Venture deep into the forest, following trails in search of the mountain gorillas. The trek duration ranges from 45 minutes to 6 hours, depending on the gorilla family’s location and movements. Be mentally and physically prepared for the challenging terrain and consider your fitness level when selecting a gorilla family to track. Encounter diverse wildlife such as forest elephants, primates, and endemic bird species, with your guide providing insights into the rich ecosystem. Upon meeting the gorilla family, enjoy a mesmerizing hour observing these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. Respect their space, avoid direct eye contact with the dominant silverback, and maintain a calm demeanor if confronted. Receive your trekking certificate as a token of appreciation for contributing to gorilla conservation before returning to your lodge for relaxation .

Set off at 7:30am for a briefing at Volcanoes National Park after breakfast. The 4 to 6-hour hike up Mount Bisoke starts at 8:00am, with a drive to the starting point where you’ll receive a hiking stick. At the summit, enjoy the Crater Lake and stunning views of the Virunga ranges, Volcanoes National Park, Virunga National Park, Mgahinga National Park, and the Rwenzori mountains. Descend to meet your guide and head to the lodge for lunch.

Next, transfer to lake Kivu to experience the enchanting Lake Kivu on the Rwanda/Congo border, just two hours from Kigali. Kibuye offers swimming, canoeing, and water-skiing, while Gisenyi has nostalgic Belgian-era architecture. After gorilla tracking in Parc des Volcans, enjoy a boat ride on Lake Kivu, observing bird species and aquatic animals. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay, then transfer to Kigali International Airport for your onward journey, carrying memories of Rwanda’s enchanting landscapes.
