This 4-day tour is strategically designed for tourists who want to guarantee sightings of endangered rhinos alongside classic African predators. By pairing Lake Nakuru National Park (a strictly protected, fenced rhino sanctuary) with the wild, unfenced savannas of the Maasai Mara, this itinerary offers an efficient, highly successful wildlife checklist in under a week
Morning:Pick up at 07:30 AM from Nairobi. Drive northwest into the Great Rift Valley, passing down the escarpment and past the shores of Lake Naivasha before arriving at Lake Nakuru National Park by lunchtime.
Afternoon:Set out on a comprehensive afternoon game drive around the lake’s perimeter. Nakuru is one of the most successful sanctuaries in Africa for both endangered Black and White Rhinos. Your guide will track these prehistoric giants along the woodlands. You will also see rare Rothschild giraffes, leopards resting in acacia branches, and thousands of pink flamingos feeding on algae along the lake shore.
Night:Dinner and overnight at Lake Nakuru Lodge (or similar).
Morning:Enjoy an early breakfast, check out, and take a final morning loop out of Lake Nakuru. Drive south toward the Maasai Mara, traveling through vast agricultural landscapes and remote Maasai towns.
Afternoon:Arrive at the gates of the Maasai Mara in time for a late lunch at your camp. At 04:00 PM, head straight out into the savanna. The open horizon stands in contrast to the forested tracks of Nakuru. Track large prides of lions and look for cheetahs using termite mounds as vantage points.
Night:Dinner and overnight at Basecamp Maasai Mara (or similar).
Morning:Spend the entire day deep inside the Maasai Mara. Depart after an early breakfast with a picnic lunch packed by the lodge chefs. Travel through different sectors of the reserve, including the rolling plains and riverine forests.
Afternoon:Sit quietly near the river banks watching family groups of elephants bathe, and track top predators like lions, leopards, and hyenas on their daily patrols. Your guide will pick a safe, elevated spot in the open wild for your picnic lunch. Continue your tracking before returning to camp at sunset.
Night:Dinner and overnight at Basecamp Maasai Mara (or similar).
