Detailed itinerary

Upon stepping out of the arrivals terminal at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), you will be met by a personal driver-guide holding a customized placard. You will be transferred in a private air-conditioned vehicle to your boutique city hotel. Receive a comprehensive welcome briefing over fresh Kenyan coffee regarding the upcoming adventure. Spend the rest of your evening relaxing after your international flight.

  • Meals: Bed & Breakfast
  • Overnight: Nairobi Serena Hotel

Board your private 4×4 Land Cruiser and journey north. Drive past sprawling pineapple fields and climb the cool agricultural highlands of Mount Kenya before descending into the dramatic, semi-arid northern frontier. Cross the equator and enter Samburu National Reserve. Take a late-afternoon game drive along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River—the primary watering lifeline for the region’s wildlife.

  • Meals: Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: Elephant Bedroom Camp

Spend the day looking for Samburu’s unique, desert-adapted wildlife species found nowhere else in the southern parks. Your expert guide will track the “Samburu Special Five”: the rare blue-skinned Somali Ostrich, Grevy’s Zebra, Reticulated Giraffe, the straight-horned Beisa Oryx, and the bizarre Gerenuk (a gazelle that stands upright on its hind legs to eat acacia leaves). Watch for leopards hiding in the branches of doum palm trees.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: Elephant Bedroom Camp

Take a short morning drive south to the foothills of Mount Kenya, checking into the private Ol Pejeta Conservancy. This award-winning eco-sanctuary is East Africa’s largest sanctuary for endangered Black Rhinos. Head out on an afternoon safari, stopping at the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary to observe rescued primates before taking a guided drive to meet and photograph the world’s last two remaining Northern White Rhinos, under 24/7 armed ranger protection.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: Sweetwaters Tented Camp

Spend a highly immersive day engaging with conservation activities. Accompany rangers on a tracking safari to learn how anti-poaching units operate. In the evening, experience a rare thrill excluded from most standard safaris: a Night Game Driveusing filtered spotlights to witness nocturnal predators like lions, leopards, genets, and aardvarks on the hunt.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: Sweetwaters Tented Camp

Drive into the cool, mist-shrouded cloud forests of Aberdare National Park. Arrive at a unique architectural “tree hotel” built directly above an active elephant and buffalo salt lick waterhole. Pack a small overnight bag and spend your afternoon and night observing wildlife from open-air viewing decks. Animals come down to drink at the floodlit waterhole all night, allowing you to watch wildlife from the comfort of your lounge.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: The Ark Lodge

Descend from the misty highlands back onto the floor of the Great Rift Valley. Drive past Thomson’s Falls waterfall and check into your lakeside resort at Naivasha by lunchtime. In the afternoon, board a motorboat safari across Lake Naivasha to see hundreds of wallowing hippos and diving African fish eagles. Disembark on Crescent Island for an intimate, guided walking safari, walking safely alongside wild giraffes, waterbucks, and elands.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: Lake Naivasha Country Club

Take a short one-hour drive to the neighboring Lake Nakuru National Park. Spend the entire day driving along the lake ridges and through deep acacia forests tracking endangered rhinos, large herds of buffalo, and the park’s famous tree-climbing lions. Climb up to the Baboon Cliff lookout point for a panoramic view over the glass-like lake surface.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: Lake Nakuru Lodge

Travel south across the Great Rift Valley floor, climbing into the endless rolling savannah of the Maasai Mara ecosystem. Enter the reserve via a high-reward game drive, immediately putting you in prime position to view the big cats (lion, leopard, cheetah) that dominate this sector. Arrive at your five-star luxury lodge built along the edge of the reserve.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: Mara Serena Safari Lodge

With three entire days completely dedicated to the world’s ultimate wildlife theatre, your guide can customize daily tracks based on active animal movements. Drive down to the remote Serengeti border crossings, follow massive wildebeest migrations, locate cheetahs teaching cubs to hunt, and track elusive solitary leopards. Enjoy spectacular evening sundowner drinks set up in the middle of the open savannah plains.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: Mara Serena Safari Lodge

Break up the game drives by spending a morning visiting an authentic, non-commercialized Maasai village (Manyatta). Learn about their age-old patriarchal structures, admire traditional fire-making techniques using sticks, and watch the warriors perform the famous Adumujumping dance.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Overnight: Mara Serena Safari Lodge

Check out after breakfast and take a relaxed drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon. Check into your urban hotel and head out for a curated city tour. Visit the Karen Blixen Museum (author of Out of Africa) and enjoy an evening celebratory farewell dinner at the world-famous Carnivore Restaurant, sampling traditional game meats roasted over an open charcoal pit.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
  • Overnight: Nairobi Serena Hotel

Spend your final morning visiting the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to see orphaned baby elephants being hand-fed with giant milk bottles.
